چکیده

This study reveals rainfall variability and trends in the African continent using TAMSAT data from 1983 to 2020. In study, a Mann–Kendall (MK) test Sen’s slope estimator were used analyze their magnitude, respectively, under monthly, seasonal, annual timeframes as an indication of climate change different natural geographical contexts (i.e., sub-regions, zones, major river basins, countries). The finds that highest recorded Rwanda (11.97 mm/year), Gulf Guinea (river basin 8.71 tropical rainforest zone (8.21 Central region (6.84 while Mozambique (−0.437 subtropical northern desert (0.80 west coast South Africa (−0.360 Northern (1.07 mm/year) show lowest trends. There is statistically significant increase countries Africa’s central regions, there no southern eastern regions. terms climates, peninsulas, grasslands, over entire timeframe month, season, year. implies increased will have positive effect on food security those climatic zones. Since large percentage agriculture based only rain-fed agriculture), increasing can assist resilience adaptation, declining badly affect it. information be crucial for decision-makers concerned with effective crop planning water resource management. trend analysis this provide important need effectively mitigate drought flood risk.

The 30 year TAMSAT African Rainfall

African societies are dependent on rainfall for agricultural and other water-dependent activities, yet rainfall is extremely variable in both space and time and reoccurring water shocks, such as drought, can have considerable social and economic impacts. To help improve our knowledge of the rainfall climate, we have constructed a 30 year (1983–2012), temporally consistent rainfall data set for ...

Adaptation to Climate Variability and South African Livestock Systems: Lessons for Long-term Climate Change

Adaptation Adaptation is a concept derived from evolutionary biology, which, in its strict biological sense refers to the ability of organisms to pass on their genetic material to the next generation. It is measured through genetic fitness. Another, broader view of adaptation refers to the ability of individuals or groups to respond to changes in their environment. Until the last decade or so, ...

Agrometeorological adaptation strategies to increasing climate variability and climate change

This paper starts with summarizing the indications for climate change as they are reviewed in the most recent WMO global climate system reviews. There are indications in the paper for increasing climate variability in certain areas. Some of the principal causes of increasing climate variability and climate change (ICV & CC) are a mixture of external and internal factors to the climate system. O...

International Trade and the Adaptation to Climate Change and Variability

This paper has three messages mainly, which are observed in a simple model of climate change, international trade and regional adaptation. First, trade can be viewed as a kind of adaptation to climate change and variability, as trade can help to reduce direct impacts of global climate change on a region’s welfare. In particular, the less affected and the richer nations are, the more they can pr...
